Basic Public Liability Inurance
The policy we have offered for many years actually includes Public Liability, Employers Liability and Product Liability Insurance. All these three are bundled into the one policy at a standard cost of £65 for 2019, no matter what the size of your club.
Public Liability covers you against claims brought against you by members of the public or visitors who have suffered an injury or loss or damage to property as a result of negligence on the part of the group. Organisations that take part in public shows for example are often required to have PLI cover of at least £5,000,000 and even groups running private meetings should cover themselves against claims from their members.
Employers Liability may at first sight seem superfluous as few of us employ staff but this covers you in respect of claims made for injury loss or damage suffered as a result of your negligence by anyone working for you including volunteers.
For most clubs the Products Liaibility cover is limited to refreshments served at meetings because there is an important paragraph in the Legal Liabilities (Additional Endorsements) contract which states Products Liability will be restricted to the sale of food and drink intended to be consumed on your premises.
- Includes Public and Products Liability Limit of Indemnity: £5,000,000
- Employers’ Liability Limit of Indemnity: £10,000,000
- Annual Premium to 31/1/20: £65
Extended Products Liability
Increasingly however we are catering for community groups selling produce intended to be taken away from the site. To cover them for these sales we have added a new option to extend the basic PLI policy and add a paragraph specifically to cover sales of items to be taken off-site. Again there is a standard price no matter what the size of club which includes Extended Products Liability with the Basic PLI.
- Products Liability covers items intended to be taken away from the place of sale.
- Annual Premium to 31/1/20: £121
Finally we have just introduced a new option for Property Insurance. Unfortunately insurance companies will not give us a standard price for all clubs as they do with PLI, but ask for individual applications and give individual quotes but by pooling our collective requirements we expect quotes will be competitive. There is a form on the web site to apply for a quote; there is no obligation of course to accept a quote and no need to hold the PLI policy to apply for Property Insurance.
We hope these new additions prove useful and give us a comprehensive set of insurance offerings. We will be monitoring them and take into account any comments from members.
